The Mahindra Thar, a beloved off-road SUV in India, is poised for a launch in the coming weeks. The refreshed Mahindra Thar (3-door) will feature several design and feature enhancements. Although the exact launch date remains unknown, the updated model is anticipated to debut by the end of September 2025. Test runs of the upcoming 2025 Mahindra Thar have provided insights into the expected changes.
The interior of the new Thar will be significantly updated, with a larger touchscreen infotainment system, an upgraded driver display, and a new electric steering wheel. In addition, the vehicle will incorporate features from the Thar Rocks model. These features encompass a 360-degree camera system, ventilated front seats, ambient lighting, wireless phone charging capabilities, rear disc brakes, and Level-2 ADAS.
In terms of design, the 2025 Mahindra Thar will borrow design elements from the Thar Rocks. The front end will exhibit a revised double-stacked slat grille, slightly altered bumpers, and new headlamps. Moreover, the design enhancements will extend to redesigned alloy wheels, new taillamps, and a new rear bumper. Mahindra may also offer new exterior color schemes for the updated Thar.
Under the hood, it is expected that the engine options will remain unchanged. Potential buyers will have the choice of a 152 bhp 2.0-liter turbo petrol engine, a 119 bhp 1.5-liter turbo diesel engine, and a 130 bhp 2.2-liter turbo diesel engine. The transmission options are also likely to stay the same. Like the current models, the updated Thar 3-door will continue to be offered in both RWD and 4WD variants.
