Kinetic, known for its gearless scooters, is reportedly planning a comeback in the EV market with a new electric scooter. The original Kinetic scooter, produced through a collaboration between Kinetic Engineering Limited and Honda Motor Company, was powered by a 2-stroke 98cc engine. This engine offered 7.7 hp at 5600 rpm and a torque of 1.0 KGm at 5000 rpm, with a fuel efficiency of 40 kmpl.
Kinetic is set to re-enter the market by introducing an EV version. Kinetic Green and Kinetic Watts and Volts are expected to play a role in this initiative, with the latter having recently patented a new electric scooter. This suggests a potential re-launch of the classic scooter as an EV. The new EV is anticipated to compete with established electric scooter models such as Hero, Ather, TVS iQube, Bajaj Chetak, and Ola S1. The design is likely to draw inspiration from the Kinetic Honda ZX, retaining the original silhouette, including the angular headlight, square ORVMs and spacious floorboard. A manufacturing unit has been established in Ahilya Nagar, Maharashtra, to support the production, targeting the growing electric scooter segment in India.
