Arunachal Pradesh is set to become the site of India’s first private 2G ethanol plant, which will utilize bamboo as a renewable feedstock. Minister Ojing Tasing announced this step, highlighting its contribution to the state’s clean energy goals. The announcement was made after the Minister’s participation in a virtual conference on ‘Arunachal Pradesh Leading in Sustainable Bio-industrial Development’. Tasing called this initiative a historic step towards a green future for the state. This project is more than a technological advancement; it represents Arunachal Pradesh’s commitment to lead India’s clean energy transition. The use of bamboo matches the state’s abundant natural resources. The Minister emphasized that the ethanol plant will promote environmentally friendly industrialization and open up new economic opportunities for local communities.
Ethanol is used as an alternative fuel for vehicles. It is produced using crops such as sugarcane and maize. It is mixed with petrol, with the aim of reducing petrol consumption and pollution. It also provides farmers with additional income from sugarcane and maize.
Ethanol is mixed with petrol in a fixed amount. E20 fuel is available in the market. New vehicles have E20 written on them, meaning the fuel contains 20% ethanol. This mixture burns in the engine, generating energy. Ethanol produces energy in the engine similar to petrol. Because it is entirely natural, it causes less pollution.
