September 2025 brought interesting dynamics to the Indian passenger car market. Maruti Suzuki secured the top spot, while Tata Motors surpassed Mahindra & Mahindra to take second place. Although Maruti Suzuki remained at the forefront, a minor reduction was observed in its registrations.
Maruti Suzuki recorded registrations of 1,22,785 units in September 2025, reflecting a 5.77% decrease from the 1,30,242 units registered in August. The company’s firm grip in the hatchback, SUV, and MPV segments continued to give it an edge over competitors.
Tata Motors demonstrated a strong performance, with registrations reaching 40,068 units in September, a 5.44% increase compared to the 37,988 units in August. This growth allowed Tata Motors to move into second position, overtaking Mahindra. The rising demand for popular models such as the Nexon and Punch highlighted the company’s positive growth trend.
Mahindra experienced a notable decline of 11.37% in September. Registrations decreased to 37,451 units compared to 42,253 units in August. Hyundai’s registrations in September 2025 were 35,470 units, significantly down from 45,686 units in August, representing a 22.34 percent sales decrease. Despite its reliance on successful SUVs like Creta and Venue, Hyundai faced market challenges, trailing behind both Tata and Mahindra.
Toyota Kirloskar Motor’s registrations in September were 20,051 units, down 24.23 percent from the 26,453 units in August. Despite the popularity of models such as Innova Hycross and Fortuner, the company could not maintain its momentum. Kia India also saw a slowdown, with 16,540 units registered in September, down from 18,793 units in August.
