Full-size SUVs are becoming increasingly popular due to their enhanced space and ability to accommodate more passengers. The Mahindra XUV 7OO and Tata Safari currently dominate this segment, but several new SUVs are preparing to enter the market from Honda, Renault, and Nissan. These new entrants are expected to launch in the next 12 to 15 months and could potentially steal market share from the XUV 7OO and Safari.
Honda’s forthcoming 7-seater SUV is designed to be built upon the company’s new PF2 platform. This platform supports a variety of powertrain options, including petrol, strong-hybrid, and electric. While the vehicle will have three rows of seating, reports suggest it may be an extended Elevate, effectively offering a 7-seater configuration in a larger body style.
Local manufacturing will take place at Honda’s Tapukara plant in Rajasthan. The engine options could include a 1.5-liter 4-cylinder naturally aspirated petrol engine, which is also found in the Honda City and Honda Elevate. The higher-end versions might incorporate Atkinson strong hybrid technology.
Renault is planning to introduce a 7-seater SUV in India by the end of 2026. It may be a 7-seater iteration of the Duster SUV. The new SUV is anticipated to have its unique design features, and a larger overall size to accommodate more cabin space.
Nissan India’s MD, Saurabh Vatsa, recently confirmed that a premium D-segment SUV will launch in early 2027. This seven-seater SUV, featuring three rows of seats, will be built upon a new mid-size SUV platform. Expect features such as a 360-degree camera, Level 2 ADAS, ventilated seats, a large touchscreen infotainment system, a digital driver display, and a dual-pane sunroof. Apart from petrol engine and hybrid technology, the top-spec variant might also offer a 4×4 driving system.
