A SpiceJet passenger endured a rather unpleasant experience on a Mumbai to Bengaluru flight, spending the flight confined to the aircraft’s lavatory. The airline has expressed remorse and reportedly offered a refund. The incident has amused and baffled many.
The passenger was finally released after the flight landed at Bengaluru airport, with ground staff and engineers successfully opening the locked toilet door.
The incident occurred on a Monday night. The Mumbai-Bengaluru flight was delayed by two hours, departing at 2:10 AM instead of 10:55 PM.
A passenger in seat 14D entered the restroom shortly after takeoff and was unable to exit because of a jammed door lock, causing the mid-air issue. The crew tried unsuccessfully to unlock the door.
To offer some comfort, the crew slipped a handwritten note under the door. The note instructed the passenger to stay calm and remain on the toilet until landing. The note quickly went viral, with many finding it humorous.
The flight landed in Bengaluru at around 3:45 AM. The door was subsequently opened by an airport engineer. The airline issued an apology for the trouble caused.
