Cricket enthusiasts in India are keenly awaiting the reveal of the national squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The BCCI’s selection committee, under the chairmanship of Ajit Agarkar, will convene on Saturday, December 20, 2025, at their Mumbai base to finalize the 15-member squad. This team will carry the hopes of a nation as they aim to defend their T20 World Cup title on home soil.
The tournament is slated to run from February 7 to March 8, 2026. The BCCI’s decision to announce the squad on December 20, well ahead of the January 8, 2026, deadline, is a strategic move to ensure players are mentally prepared and have clear focus.
In addition to the World Cup selections, the committee will also select the India squad for the upcoming white-ball series against New Zealand, which comprises three ODIs and five T20Is. The current T20I series against South Africa, led by Suryakumar Yadav, concludes this Friday in Ahmedabad.
Following the selection meeting, a press conference will be held at 1:30 PM IST on December 20, 2025, at the BCCI Headquarters. Captain Suryakumar Yadav and chief selector Ajit Agarkar are expected to address the media.
India, the reigning champions, have been placed in Group A for the 2026 T20 World Cup, facing the USA, Namibia, the Netherlands, and Pakistan. Their opening match will be against the USA in Mumbai. The tournament will be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka, with matches scheduled at iconic venues including Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Delhi’s Arun Jaitley Stadium, Colombo’s R Premadasa Stadium, and Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium.
