In a heart-wrenching incident, Sahaja Reddy Udumala, a 24-year-old Indian student, has lost her life following a fire that erupted at her New York residence. The blaze, which eyewitnesses report started in a nearby structure on Thursday, December 4th, tragically spread to Sahaja’s home while she was asleep. The Indian Consulate has officially confirmed her death and extended profound sympathy to her family. Sahaja, a Master’s student in Albany, was reportedly in critical condition due to severe burn injuries covering a vast portion of her body. Despite the best medical interventions, she could not be saved and succumbed to her injuries. Her cousin expressed the immense shock and grief of the family, highlighting Sahaja’s bright future that was tragically cut short. Fundraising efforts are underway to cover the costs associated with her funeral and to arrange for her remains to be sent back to India. Support services are being provided to the family by the Consulate.
