On December 7, 2025, Ranchi’s Gangotri Convention Center was the venue for the Institute of Company Secretaries of India (ICSI) Eastern Region Convocation. The esteemed event was attended by Union Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, as the chief guest. The convocation marked the formal induction of 102 new company secretaries from the Eastern Region into the professional body. Minister Seth congratulated the new members, stating that with the surge in startups driving India’s economic acceleration, the role of company secretaries in ensuring strong governance and compliance has become more critical than ever. He emphasized their essential role in achieving the nation’s aspirations for a developed India by 2047. ICSI President, CS Dhananjay Shukla, in his address, spoke about the institute’s dedication to strengthening governance through its proactive programs. He expressed confidence that these programs would adequately prepare the new professionals to contribute meaningfully to India’s economic trajectory. Shukla also elaborated on the fee waiver scheme introduced for personnel of the Indian Armed Forces, paramilitary forces, Agniveers, martyrs’ families, and students hailing from Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. He further presented details on several significant new programs and collaborations initiated by ICSI. These include an MBA in Maritime Regulation & Compliance Management with Gujarat Maritime University, a joint certificate course with NISM on Corporate & Securities Market Compliance, and a specialized certificate course on UAE Business Managers. The institute also unveiled its Guiding Principles on Stewardship and Principles on Climate Change Governance, along with an ESG Stakeholder Engagement Toolkit to aid companies in sustainability practices. ICSI Vice President, CS Pawan Ji Chandak, encouraged the newly inducted members to seize opportunities and embrace their professional duties towards the esteemed institution of ICSI, a global advocate for good governance. ICSI Council Member, CS Rupanajana De, and ICSI EIRC Chairman, CS Anuj Saraswat, were also present at the event.
