Rahul Kashyap, a Senior Jailer at the Birsa Munda Central Jail in Ranchi, has been officially dismissed by the Home and Jail Department. The decision stems from an internal investigation that uncovered Kashyap’s failure to disclose his status as a convicted individual when he applied for and obtained the jail official position. The department has also mandated that all payments to Kashyap cease immediately.
Kashyap’s employment at the Hotwar jail in Ranchi was built on a foundation of secrecy regarding his criminal conviction. Once this truth surfaced, the Jail Department launched a formal investigation. A dedicated committee of three officials was appointed to examine the facts. Their investigation concluded that Kashyap was indeed guilty of hiding his conviction, leading to their recommendation for his dismissal.
The investigative committee’s report provided a clear timeline of Kashyap’s criminal history. This included a case registered on September 26, 2010, with charges including rape. A court later sentenced him to ten years imprisonment. He was held as a convicted prisoner at Khunti Sub-Jail from April 22, 2014, to April 28, 2014, before being transferred to the Hotwar Jail in Ranchi on April 29, 2014.
