A significant accusation has been leveled against the Jharkhand government by opposition leader Babulal Marandi, who claims the state is actively manufacturing new crimes to obscure existing ones, particularly those linked to the coal mafia. Marandi articulated that the government and its associated systems have adopted a strategy of fabricating offenses to conceal the magnitude of criminal activities within Jharkhand. Recent Enforcement Directorate (ED) operations in Dhanbad’s extensive coal network have yielded shocking revelations. A particularly sinister aspect involves alleged instructions from top police officials, reportedly benefiting from coal trade corruption, to the coal mafia to ‘permanently eliminate’ their associates who are being interrogated by the ED. This alleged plot aims to prevent incriminating testimony from reaching investigators. Marandi revealed credible information indicating that assassination plots are being devised against individuals cooperating with the ED, thereby attempting to stifle the truth. He reminded observers of past incidents in Jharkhand where ‘evidence-destroying encounters’ were allegedly orchestrated, pointing to a former Director General of Police infamous for alleged contract killings and unparalleled corruption. Marandi strongly advised the ED to exercise the utmost vigilance, noting that in Jharkhand, suppression of truth often prevails over its disclosure. He concluded that when political authority, administrative mechanisms, and criminal networks merge, the denial of justice becomes a perfunctory act.
