RK Singh, a prominent BJP leader and former Union Minister, has officially resigned from the party, demanding the BJP leadership clarify the ‘anti-party activities’ that led to his suspension. The Bihar BJP unit suspended Singh on November 15, a move that came after his consistent public critique of the party’s candidate selection process and leadership during the Bihar Assembly elections. Singh stated in a media briefing that he has already sent his resignation to party president JP Nadda and is seeking a detailed explanation for the accusations. ‘Questioning the eligibility of candidates with criminal or corrupt backgrounds is, in my view, acting in the party’s best interest and safeguarding its reputation,’ Singh asserted. He had openly criticized the BJP and its allies within the NDA for nominating candidates allegedly involved in criminal activities or corruption, naming figures like Deputy Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary and politician Anant Singh. Singh voiced concerns that such nominations compromise the party’s core values and its standing with the public. He felt compelled to express his dissent, believing that prioritizing electoral success over ethical considerations is detrimental to the party and the nation. This episode unfolds shortly after the NDA’s electoral win in Bihar, a period reportedly marked by internal disagreements. Singh’s earlier criticisms of the Election Commission regarding election violence and governance breakdowns had already heightened tensions with the state party leadership. The party’s disciplinary actions are also evident in the suspension of MLC Ashok Kumar Agarwal and his wife, Mayor Usha Agarwal, for allegedly supporting their son’s unauthorized candidacy, signaling a broader crackdown on dissent and a push for internal cohesion.
