A harrowing moment captured by CCTV cameras shows a white Hyundai i20 exploding on a busy road near Delhi’s Red Fort. This incident occurred just two days after a devastating blast that claimed nine lives and injured nearly two dozen people. The video footage, obtained from a traffic camera near Gate Number 1 of the Red Fort Metro Station, reveals the car slowly moving through a packed street filled with e-rickshaws, auto-rickshaws, and other vehicles. At around 6:52 pm on Monday, the car burst into flames, causing extensive damage to nearby vehicles and buildings and creating significant disruption in the congested Old Delhi area. The government has officially declared the event a ‘heinous terror act,’ and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has taken control of the investigation. The CCTV recording clearly depicts the i20 inching through heavy traffic before the sudden detonation. Despite the quick response of emergency services, the car was completely destroyed by fire. Official figures confirm nine fatalities, with at least twelve individuals sustaining injuries. Investigators have identified the vehicle as a white Hyundai i20, with the license plate HR 26CE7674. Evidence points to Dr. Umar Nabi, a 32-year-old medical professional with alleged ties to a terror module linked to Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), as the driver. Reports suggest Dr. Nabi purchased the i20 on October 29th from a Faridabad-based dealer. CCTV footage shows Nabi visiting a PUC center near the dealership shortly after the purchase. He then reportedly drove to Al-Falah Medical College and parked next to a car belonging to Dr. Muzammil Shakeel, who was later arrested in connection with a large seizure of explosives. Shakeel’s car was registered in the name of Dr. Shaheen Saeed, a doctor from Lucknow who was also detained for suspected terror links. The Hyundai i20 was tracked by surveillance cameras throughout Delhi, including Connaught Place and Mayur Vihar, before it arrived at the Sunehri Masjid parking lot in Chandni Chowk. Footage shows a man, believed to be Nabi, interacting with the car. The vehicle remained parked for over three hours before heading out towards Netaji Subhash Marg, the road adjacent to the Red Fort, where the explosion occurred amidst the evening rush hour traffic.
