India’s ICC Women’s World Cup 2025 victory is marked by the extraordinary story of fast bowler Kranti Gaud, whose success has not only brought national glory but also restored her father’s lost honor. Munna Singh Gaud, her father, was dismissed from the Madhya Pradesh police in 2012 under contentious circumstances, a period that ushered in years of significant hardship for the family.
Over a decade later, Kranti’s powerful performances on the global stage have finally rewritten this painful chapter. At a felicitation ceremony in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav announced the reinstatement of Munna Singh Gaud, calling it a “rightful restoration of dignity” for a family that has demonstrated incredible fortitude.
“Kranti has brought pride to the whole country. It is only fitting that her father’s honor is restored,” CM Yadav stated during the event, highlighting the national significance of her achievement and the justice it brings. This sentiment underscores the powerful connection between athletic success and personal vindication.
Kranti Gaud’s ascent to World Cup champion is a narrative deeply rooted in sacrifice and resilience. The Gaud family faced severe financial strain in Chhatarpur, Madhya Pradesh, after Munna Singh’s dismissal. Kranti shared the stark reality of their struggles: “There were days when we could afford only one meal a day.” This challenging upbringing fueled her ambition.
Her dedication to fast bowling saw her rise through the ranks of domestic cricket, leading to her inclusion in the national team just months before the World Cup. Her journey resonated widely, becoming a symbol of how unwavering perseverance can overcome profound personal obstacles.
On the cricket field, Kranti Gaud was instrumental in India’s success at the ICC Women’s World Cup 2025. Her combination of high speed, accurate bowling, and fearless attitude established her as one of the tournament’s standout players. She took nine wickets across eight matches, showcasing her talent in crucial moments. Her best performance came against Pakistan with a remarkable 3/20 spell. She also made significant contributions against New Zealand, taking two key wickets in a must-win game. A defining moment in the semifinal against Australia was her crucial early dismissal of star batter Alyssa Healy, which set the stage for India’s eventual championship win.
Upon her return, Kranti Gaud was celebrated as a hero in Madhya Pradesh. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and Sports Minister Vishwas Sarang felicitated Kranti, her parents, and her coach in a grand ceremony. The CM also announced a ₹1 crore reward and the construction of a world-class stadium in Chhatarpur dedicated to nurturing young talent. Furthermore, a special event is planned for November 15, Tribal Pride Day, in Jabalpur to honor Kranti’s extraordinary accomplishments.
