Dhanbad: The long wait is almost over for Wasseypur gangster Fahim Khan, who is slated for release from jail following a Jharkhand High Court order. The directive, issued on Friday, brought palpable joy to his family on Saturday, signaling his imminent departure from prison after 16 years.
Friday marked a significant day for Fahim Khan as the Jharkhand High Court sanctioned his release, allowing him to soon breathe the air of freedom. The court’s order sent waves of happiness through his family, with his son, Iqbal Khan, sharing the celebratory mood by distributing sweets. He stated that the family had always trusted the court to deliver justice and thanked the Dhanbad police for ensuring a just legal environment.
Iqbal Khan also addressed potential wrongdoers, issuing a stern warning that crime leads to unfortunate ends and encouraged them to leave that life behind for mainstream society. Elaborating on the legal proceedings, Fahim Khan’s advocate, Shahbaz Salam, mentioned that a petition was filed on November 29, 2024, requesting his client’s release. The petition underscored Khan’s advanced age and his health ailments as reasons for his release.
Previously, the court had instructed the state government to establish a review board to assess the matter. The legal counsel highlighted that Fahim Khan is now over 75 years old and has been imprisoned for more than 20 years. These critical points – his age and the extended duration of his sentence – were central to the court’s decision to order his release. Fahim Khan has been serving a sentence since 2009 for his involvement in the 1989 murder of Sagir. The family and his well-wishers are now celebrating this judicial outcome.
