Former President Donald Trump is again calling for a Department of Justice investigation into the integrity of the 2020 presidential election, labeling the alleged rigging a “major scandal.” Despite the official outcomes and judicial dismissals of his claims, Trump continues to assert that the election was unfairly decided.
Trump has been a vocal critic of current voting practices, advocating for the discontinuation of mail-in and early voting. He champions the implementation of voter ID laws as a crucial step to safeguard against election fraud. His recent criticisms have also extended to California’s Proposal 50, a redistricting initiative.
“The 2020 Presidential Election, being Rigged and Stolen, is a far bigger SCANDAL,” Trump declared on social media, urging the DOJ to pursue the matter with significant effort. He warned that a failure to address these alleged issues could jeopardize the fairness of future elections, including the upcoming midterms.
He stressed his preference for traditional voting methods and strict voter identification, expressing concerns about the logistics of mail-in ballots, particularly in California. Trump advised Republicans to remain vigilant against potential electoral manipulation.
The post-election period was characterized by Trump’s persistent allegations of a rigged election, which were consistently rejected by election authorities and the courts. These claims are closely associated with the events of January 6, 2021, when a large group of Trump supporters entered the U.S. Capitol building while Congress was in session to certify the election results.
