In a swift and decisive operation, Ranchi police have arrested two alleged members of the notorious Sujit Sinha gang and injured another during an early morning encounter near Balsiring, Tupudana OP. The police also recovered three handguns, dealing a significant blow to the criminal organization’s operational capacity in the area.
This engagement is understood to be a direct response to a recent firing incident targeting the home of Monu Rai in the Doranda area. The arrested individuals, identified as Sonu and another associate, along with the injured Aftab, are suspected of carrying out the Doranda firing on Sinha’s directives. Rural SP Praveen Pushkar commended the police team for their bravery and efficiency, confirming the arrests and weapon seizure while noting that the investigation into the gang’s wider network is intensifying.
The successful operation was initiated following actionable intelligence provided to SSP Rakesh Ranjan about the gang’s movements. A coordinated manhunt was launched, involving teams led by the Rural SP and Hatia DSP, alongside local police, and included enhanced security checks throughout Ranchi. A routine vehicle inspection proved pivotal.
Officers stopped a motorcycle, and the rider, identified as Sonu, was found to be in possession of a pistol. Under interrogation, Sonu admitted to being part of the Sujit Sinha gang and disclosed that other members were congregating at a nearby location. Based on this lead, police moved in cautiously. The criminals attempted to evade capture by opening fire, leading to a return of fire from the police. Aftab sustained a gunshot wound during the melee and was subsequently arrested along with his accomplice. The duo are currently providing vital information to the authorities. SSP Rakesh Ranjan arrived at the scene to oversee the post-encounter proceedings.
