Ranchi’s public transportation is on the cusp of a significant transformation with the approval of Rs 48.72 crore to upgrade its three key bus terminals to national standards. The ITI Bus Stand, Government Bus Depot, and Birsa Munda Bus Terminal in Khadgara will undergo comprehensive modernization, driven by Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s directive to speed up urban development. The allocated funds include Rs 24.77 crore for the ITI Bus Stand, Rs 20.19 crore for the Government Bus Depot, and Rs 3.76 crore for the Birsa Munda Bus Terminal. The Urban Development and Housing Minister has instructed the relevant authorities to ensure the timely execution of these projects through JUHDCO. The ITI Bus Stand will be redeveloped into a modern facility from its current state of basic provisions. Spanning three acres, the new terminal will feature ground-floor amenities like a driver’s canteen, maintenance bays, a guard room, a modern entrance, and parking for cars, autos, and e-rickshaws. The first floor will be equipped with a restaurant, administrative offices, ticket counters, dormitory, and guest rooms with lockers, alongside landscaping. The terminal will be equipped to handle 416 buses daily. The Government Bus Depot, a structure in disrepair from its construction in the 1960s, will be rebuilt at a cost of Rs 20.19 crore, following Indian Road Congress standards. The new facility will offer enhanced operational and passenger amenities across its floors, including sheltered bus bays and adequate parking. The depot will support the daily operation of around 512 buses via eight bus bays. The Birsa Munda Bus Terminal in Khadgara, situated on an 11.6-acre plot, will receive Rs 3.76 crore for upgrades aimed at improving passenger convenience. Planned enhancements include additional bus bays, extensive parking, smart shelters, a large dormitory, rest areas, clean restrooms, a guesthouse, improved lighting, secure fencing, and dedicated safety measures for women. Beautification through landscaping is also a priority. JUHDCO has been directed to expedite the tender process and commence work. These upgrades are poised to establish Ranchi’s bus terminals as national benchmarks, providing passengers with enhanced safety, cleanliness, and modern amenities for a superior travel experience.
