The film industry and Nagpur mourn the loss of Priyanshu Chhetri, an actor best known for his impactful portrayal of Babu Chhetri in the 2022 release ‘Jhund.’ Chhetri was allegedly murdered on Wednesday, following a violent altercation with a friend during a late-night drinking session. ‘Jhund,’ the Nagraj Manjule directorial, shed light on the lives of Nagpur’s slum children and their journey with football.
Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu has been arrested by the Nagpur police in connection with the crime. Investigations suggest the incident unfolded in an abandoned house in the Jaripatka locality, where Chhetri and Sahu had gathered for drinks. Reports indicate that an argument ensued, during which Chhetri allegedly threatened Sahu. Following the confrontation, Chhetri is said to have fallen asleep.
It is alleged that Sahu then proceeded to tie Chhetri with wires and inflicted fatal injuries using a sharp weapon. The swift action of the Jaripatka police and the Crime Detection Branch resulted in Sahu’s arrest within hours of the incident being reported. Sahu is reported to have previous criminal cases against him. Further details suggest that Chhetri himself had a history of minor offenses, including a previous arrest for theft.
Investigators are looking into a recent financial dispute between the two men as a possible motive. While their friends had intervened in past conflicts, this latest dispute tragically escalated. Chhetri, who came from a working-class family and overcame numerous challenges, represented the inspiring narrative of ‘Jhund.’ His death is a significant loss, highlighting the vulnerabilities faced by individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds pursuing their dreams.
