In a devastating turn of events, Priyanshu Chhetri, an actor featured in the critically acclaimed film ‘Jhund’, has allegedly been murdered in Nagpur. The incident, which unfolded on Wednesday, October 8, is linked to a violent altercation with his friend, Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu, following a night of drinking. Sahu has been arrested in connection with the death.
Reports indicate a pattern of drinking between Chhetri, also known as Babu Ravi Singh Chhetri, and Sahu. The fatal encounter allegedly took place after they met at an abandoned site in the Jaripatka area for a drinking session on Tuesday night. During a heated argument, Chhetri reportedly made threats towards Sahu. Subsequently, after Chhetri fell asleep, Sahu is accused of tying him up with wires and fatally assaulting him with a sharp weapon.
The Jaripatka police were promptly dispatched to the crime scene. In a rapid response, the Crime Detection Branch apprehended the accused, Dhruv Lal Bahadur Sahu, within six hours. Police sources confirm that Sahu has a record of criminal offenses. Chhetri, too, had previous encounters with law enforcement, including an arrest for a significant theft in 2022. A recent monetary dispute between Chhetri and Sahu had reportedly caused significant strain on their friendship, although it had been resolved by others in the past.
The film ‘Jhund’, directed by Nagraj Manjule and starring Amitabh Bachchan, is based on the true story of Vijay Barse’s efforts to transform the lives of slum children through football. Priyanshu Chhetri, a local youth from Nagpur who portrayed the character Babu Chhetri, came from a background marked by poverty, addiction, and minor criminal activities before his involvement in the film.
