An unexpected situation arose during the India A vs. Australia A cricket series in India as Australian players were taken ill in Kanpur. The players suffered from symptoms of abdominal pain and infections, resulting in the hospitalization of Australian bowler Henry Thornton. The BCCI has taken action, with Vice President Rajeev Shukla providing a statement.
The source of the illnesses is suspected to be the food consumed at the team’s hotel. Henry Thornton was under medical observation for two days and has since recovered. Other players also received hospital check-ups and were later discharged. The Landmark Hotel in Kanpur, where the Australian team is accommodated and receives meals, is under investigation, with the food department collecting samples.
Rajeev Shukla stated that the Landmark Hotel is a premier establishment in Kanpur. He suggested that if the food was contaminated, all players would likely have been affected. He speculated that the illness might have originated elsewhere, and the hotel management stated that the change in weather could be the cause of the health problems. The ongoing series between India A and Australia A in ODIs is currently tied 1-1 after the teams played in a test series where India A won 1-0.
