The resolution of the situation in Gaza is now contingent upon Hamas’s response, as stated by former US President Donald Trump. Trump indicated that Israel is prepared to withdraw, emphasizing that the decision rests with Hamas. He reported on Saturday that Israel has approved a preliminary withdrawal line for Gaza, which has been communicated to Hamas. Trump highlighted that the ceasefire will be immediate upon Hamas’s confirmation, followed by a prisoner exchange.
On Truth Social, Trump wrote that following negotiations, Israel has agreed on an initial withdrawal line and has informed Hamas of it. The ceasefire will take effect immediately upon Hamas confirming, and the hostage exchange will begin, followed by discussions on the next phase of withdrawal.
Trump appealed to Hamas for the immediate acceptance of his peace plan, cautioning against any delays. He warned Hamas to halt fighting and surrender their weapons, or all agreements would be considered void. Trump set a deadline of 6 PM on Sunday for Hamas to respond.
Hamas has responded favorably to Trump’s peace proposal, despite ongoing disagreements. Hamas has agreed to the release of hostages. However, the peace proposal requires Hamas to disarm and to have no future role in Gaza, which Hamas has not yet agreed to.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu expressed hope that the release of all hostages could be announced in the coming days. Indirect talks between Israel and Hamas are anticipated to commence in Egypt on Monday. Several key points remain unclear, including Hamas’s full acceptance of the proposal and how Israel’s security concerns will be addressed.
Previously, the White House press secretary shared a video of Trump thanking all Arab countries collaborating with his plan to resolve the Gaza conflict.
Trump’s 20-point peace plan includes immediate ceasefire, exchange of all hostages and prisoners, phased withdrawal of the Israeli army from Gaza, disarmament of Hamas, and the establishment of an interim government under international oversight.
