Syria is preparing to conduct parliamentary elections this Sunday. These elections are historic for the country, marking the first since the removal of former President Bashar al-Assad. His regime was brought down in December 2024 due to a swift assault by rebels, thus concluding five decades of Assad family rule. The interim government is presently headed by Ahmad al-Shara.
The upcoming elections are considered a significant stride towards establishing democracy in Syria. However, this will not be a direct election, and the public will not have the opportunity to vote directly. Incredibly, many Syrian citizens remain uninformed about these elections taking place in their country.
