Ranchi police have apprehended a man and his two wives for their involvement in a series of mobile phone thefts that occurred during the Durga Puja festivities. The arrested individuals, Kunal Rawani, Meera Devi, and Deepali Devi, were caught stealing mobile phones, leading to their arrest and subsequent interrogation. The trio, residents of the Balumath police station area in Latehar district, had traveled to Ranchi under the guise of attending Durga Puja. They took advantage of the large crowds to steal phones, primarily targeting female devotees. The police and puja committees had increased their vigilance due to a rise in mobile phone thefts. The women were caught in the act near the Kali Mandir on Ratu Road in the Sukhdevnagar area. A priest observed their suspicious activities and alerted the puja committee, who then notified the police. Two stolen mobile phones were recovered from the women upon their arrest, and they confessed that Kunal Rawani, their husband, was waiting nearby. Kunal was also arrested, and police recovered more stolen phones and a motorcycle from him. However, he was unable to produce the motorcycle’s paperwork, suggesting it may also have been stolen. The Sukhdevnagar police have taken the trio into custody and sent them to jail, causing a stir in Ranchi. The news of a husband and his two wives engaging in theft has become a topic of widespread discussion. In a separate incident, the Ranchi police earlier arrested five criminals for their involvement in a 35 lakh robbery and other major thefts, recovering a significant amount of cash, jewelry, motorcycles, and mobile phones.
