The BJP has appointed Aditya Sahu, a Rajya Sabha member, as the working president of its Jharkhand unit. Sahu thanked PM Narendra Modi and Amit Shah for the appointment, highlighting his commitment to the party and national interests. He pledged to serve the BJP with integrity.
The appointment was made by BJP National President JP Nadda. Sahu replaces Ravindra Kumar Rai, who had been in the role since October of the previous year. The change comes after the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha defeated the BJP-led NDA in the state assembly elections. Sahu was later nominated to the Rajya Sabha in 2022 and subsequently elected without opposition.
The swift transition in leadership reflects the BJP’s efforts to revitalize its state unit and fortify its organizational structure in Jharkhand. Sahu expressed gratitude to PM Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, JP Nadda, and other key leaders.
Speaking from Ranchi, Sahu affirmed his long history with the BJP, starting in 1980. He reiterated his dedication to serving the party and prioritizing national interests. Sahu shared his gratitude at being selected to lead the state party unit. He also reflected on his early party activities, including distributing election slips during the 1980 elections. He described the challenging conditions he worked under as a young party member.
He mentioned his rise within the party ranks, including serving as a district vice-president and multiple terms on the state working committee. He was also the organization’s general secretary for the Jharkhand BJP on two occasions. Sahu pledged to perform his new duties as working president with the utmost honesty.
By appointing Aditya Sahu, an OBC leader, as the working president, the BJP is clearly attempting to garner support from the OBC community in Jharkhand. Sahu, who is from Kunchu village in Ranchi, has been associated with the BJP for more than four decades and enjoys a strong public image. Currently a BJP Rajya Sabha MP, he has also previously worked as a teacher.
