Vijaya Dashami, the concluding day of the Durga Puja celebrations, was celebrated with great zeal and enthusiasm across Bangladesh. The coastal city of Cox’s Bazar became a focal point for the festivities, with a large gathering of devotees participating in the idol immersion rituals of the Sharadiya Durga Utsav.
The beach area transformed into a bustling hub, filled with thousands of people. The main idol immersion ceremony began on Thursday afternoon with a Vijaya conference held at the District Administration’s open stage at Laboni Point.
Idols were transported by trucks from various pandals across the seven blocks of Cox’s Bazar district to the beach, drawing large crowds. To ensure the safety and security of the event, comprehensive security arrangements were put in place.
Bangladesh, with its significant Hindu population, celebrates Vijaya Dashami with great joy. Most Hindus in Bangladesh belong to the Bengali community, and the festival is a time of widespread celebration.
According to Uday Shankar Pal Mithu, Executive President of the District Puja Udghavan Parishad, the idol immersion in the sea began with the chanting of mantras at 5 pm. He acknowledged the support of the administration in successfully organizing the grand event, bringing together Hindus from various locations to Cox’s Bazar.
The government had implemented stringent security measures for the ceremony. The beach area was under constant surveillance by the army, BGB, police, and RAB. RG control rooms were also established. Deputy Commissioner Abdul Mannan highlighted the collaborative efforts of the district administration and law enforcement agencies to ensure the success of the idol immersion ceremony through strengthened three-tier security measures.
