A disturbing incident of robbery and violence has unfolded in the Simdega district of Jharkhand. A group of approximately 10-12 masked criminals, armed with weapons, invaded the Tumdegi Church, carrying out a robbery and causing injury to the church’s leaders. The criminals managed to steal roughly 3.50 lakh rupees during the robbery. When the Dean and Parish Priest, Thomas Soreng, and the Assistant Parish Priest, Emmanuel Baghwar, attempted to intervene, they were subjected to a brutal attack. Both priests are currently receiving medical care at the Sadar Hospital in Simdega, under the supervision of the Civil Surgeon. The incident took place late on Tuesday night, drawing a swift response from law enforcement. The SP of Simdega district, along with the DSP, SDPO, and other senior officials, visited the hospital to assess the situation and gather details. The police have launched a comprehensive investigation, with efforts underway to apprehend the perpetrators. The local community is expressing outrage and concern over the incident. Local residents and elected representatives are calling for the immediate arrest of the criminals and for increased police patrols to protect religious institutions and ensure the safety of the rural population. This recent act of violence echoes a similar event from June 2025, where five masked criminals robbed the Samsera Church in the Bolba police station area, stealing approximately six lakh rupees. During that event, people were physically assaulted and forced to recite religious slogans. These recurring incidents of violence against religious institutions pose a serious challenge to the authorities and are causing significant distress within the community.
