A BSF jawan, Rahul Manjhi, died by suicide inside the Murhu police station in Khunti district, approximately 50 kilometers from Ranchi, Jharkhand. The news of the incident has created a sense of alarm throughout the district. Police officials, including SP Manish Toppo and DSP Varun Rajak, immediately went to the police station, and an elevated investigation is now underway.
The Khunti District SP has suspended the station officer of the Murhu police station, Ramdev Yadav, as a result of the incident. The BSF jawan reportedly hanged himself in the police station’s bathroom this morning. The deceased, Rahul Manjhi, was stationed in Siliguri and had been on leave from his post.
Reports indicate that Rahul Manjhi was near the Mahil village when a woman accused him of harassment. Following this, local residents caught him in the Meral area and notified the Murhu police. The police detained the jawan on the accusation of harassment and placed him in custody. It was later discovered that on Tuesday, the jawan ended his life by hanging himself using an electrical wire connected to the bathroom’s ventilator.
Upon hearing about the suicide, the jawan’s family and wife went to the police station and made severe accusations against the police. The district administration has launched a thorough investigation into the matter. As the deceased was a BSF jawan, the investigation and post-mortem will be conducted under the supervision of a magistrate.
