Efforts to end the Gaza war are underway with the introduction of a 20-point plan by former US President Donald Trump. The plan, which has received a positive response from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, now awaits a decision from Hamas. The success of the plan depends on Hamas accepting the terms.
Key elements of the plan involve Hamas fighters laying down their arms, and the destruction of Hamas’s infrastructure. The deal also explicitly states that Hamas will not have a role in any future government. Should Hamas agree, the agreement mandates the release of hostages within 72 hours. If Hamas rejects the deal, Israel, backed by the United States, will undertake military actions. Additionally, the plan provides amnesty for Hamas fighters who seek peace and allows humanitarian aid and investment to enter Gaza after Israel withdraws.
Netanyahu has conditionally supported the plan. He stated that if Hamas rejects the plan, Israel will act independently, and it will maintain a security presence in the area even if Hamas accepts the deal. The plan also includes the exchange of 20 live hostages and the bodies of two dozen deceased hostages for the release of hundreds of Gazan civilians. The plan has also been welcomed by Muslim countries like Saudi Arabia, Jordan, the UAE, Qatar, Indonesia, Turkey, Pakistan, and Egypt.
