The Indian Under-19 team is ahead 2-0 in the 3-match ODI series against Australia Under-19, positioning themselves for a clean sweep. A key player to watch is Vaibhav Suryavanshi, who has a golden opportunity to break a record previously held by Pakistan for the past 24 years. The third and final Youth ODI of the series provides Suryavanshi with his final opportunity to achieve this feat.
The record in question is for the youngest batsman to score a century in Australia. This was established in December 1997 by Pakistan’s 19-year-old opener, Hasan Raza, in an Under-19 ODI played in Australia.
Suryavanshi has already proven his talent by becoming the second youngest batsman to score a century in Under-19 ODIs globally, achieving this at the age of 14. The world record holder is Thomas Zohrab of New Zealand, who scored a century in an Under-19 ODI at the age of 11 years and 361 days. Suryavanshi now aims to set a new record in Australia.
Similar to Suryavanshi, Hasan Raza was also an opening batsman, who scored an unbeaten 100 runs in Melbourne, making him the youngest century scorer in Australia. Suryavanshi is currently in excellent form and opens the batting. If Suryavanshi scores a century in the third ODI against Australia Under-19, he will surpass the record currently held by the Pakistani player.
In the current series, Suryavanshi has scored 108 runs at an average of 54 and a strike rate of 120. He scored 70 runs in the second ODI.
