A meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on External Affairs took place on Tuesday, with the participation of visiting US lawmakers. The discussions touched upon changes in US policy towards India, including tariffs and H-1B visa issues. The silence of the Indian-American community on these issues was a focal point.
The five-member US delegation, led by Indian-American Congressman Ami Bera, engaged in these discussions. Tharoor mentioned that a key takeaway from the meeting was the strong commitment of the US, particularly the US Congress, to its relationship and strategic partnership with India.
Tharoor emphasized that the Indian-American community should advocate for India, urging them to raise their voices and pressure their political representatives to support India’s interests.
During the meeting, Congress member Rajiv Shukla criticized former President Donald Trump, stating that it was shameful for Trump to invite the Pakistan army chief while not extending an invitation to the Indian Prime Minister. Shukla called this a blatant disregard for protocol, arguing that someone of Trump’s position should adhere to protocol.
