Inderjit Singh Gosal, a figure associated with the Khalistani movement and linked to Gurpatwant Singh Pannun of Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), was arrested in Canada on firearms charges. The arrest took place in Ottawa. The arrest happened soon after a meeting between the National Security Advisors of India and Canada. Indian NSA Ajit Doval and his Canadian counterpart, Nathalie Drouin, discussed ways to improve cooperation on issues of terrorism and transnational crime. Gosal, 36, is seen as a key organizer for SFJ in Canada, especially following the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in June 2023. He had previously faced charges related to a violent incident at a Hindu temple in the GTA. Police in Canada had also notified Gosal about potential threats to his life in August 2022. Pannun confirmed that Canadian authorities issued a “duty to warn” notice to Gosal. Despite being informed of threats, Gosal has reiterated his support for the Khalistani agenda in Punjab.
