A wave of fear has gripped Korba district following a fatal elephant attack. A man was killed in the incident, highlighting the ongoing human-wildlife conflict in the region. The attack took place in the village of Tanera, under the jurisdiction of the Pasān range of the Katghora block. The deceased has been identified as Dhan Singh God, a 35-year-old farmer. The incident happened on Sunday night when an elephant entered the village. Dhan Singh God unfortunately crossed paths with the elephant, which then attacked and killed him. After the incident, villagers immediately notified the Forest Department, and a crowd gathered at the scene. Forest officials provided the family of the victim with immediate financial aid of ₹25,000, as per the state government’s guidelines. Local residents were also given safety advice. The Forest Department has requested that villagers avoid entering the forest. This latest event is another in a series of elephant attacks in Korba, where elephants have caused significant damage to crops and dwellings. This consistent threat has forced many villagers to consider leaving their homes.
