A 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit the Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky region of Russia on Friday. The shallow epicenter, at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles), amplified the impact felt along the Pacific coastline. Authorities responded by issuing a tsunami alert. The earthquake’s effects were captured in videos, which showed shaking buildings and moving objects. The quake struck approximately 127 kilometers east of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, within Russia’s far eastern Kamchatka Peninsula. Following the earthquake, the US Pacific Tsunami Warning center issued Tsunami warning in the region. Kamchatka Krai Governor Vladimir Solodov issued a statement on Telegram, reassuring residents that there were no initial reports of damage and urging them to remain calm.
