The city of Patna is under scrutiny following the fatal shooting of Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Rajkumar Rai on Wednesday night. The incident transpired around 10 pm in the vicinity of Rajendra Nagar Terminal. Police sources have confirmed that the suspects were caught on camera, and a comprehensive investigation is underway. Rai, who was active in politics and involved in property transactions, was shot and passed away on his way to the hospital.
Patna East SP Parichay Kumar stated, “An individual was shot in lane number seventeen, opposite Rajendra Nagar Terminal. The deceased is believed to be Rajkumar, also known as Ala Rai. CCTV footage has identified the perpetrators. Other individuals may also be implicated. The victim was known for his political work and dealings in land. We are, therefore, investigating every aspect. Our entire police force is dedicated to uncovering the details surrounding this incident, which happened around 10 PM.”
Reports indicate that Rai was ambushed near his home. After being shot, he attempted to find safety within a nearby shop, however, the attackers pursued him and discharged additional rounds. A bullet struck and damaged the shop’s refrigerator. Police swiftly responded to the scene and transported Rai to PMCH, where he was pronounced deceased. Investigators recovered six shell casings at the site.
