The Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Sachet’ began a four-day visit to Mombasa, Kenya, on Wednesday, September 17th. This visit seeks to increase maritime cooperation between India and Kenya and to advance the common goal of ensuring safe seas.
During the visit, the Indian Coast Guard and the Kenya Coast Guard Service (KCGS) will engage in a variety of activities, including joint exercises, capacity building programs, pollution control demonstrations, sports competitions, and joint yoga sessions. The intention is to foster mutual understanding and cooperation, thereby improving the relationship between the two countries.
The armed forces of both nations will participate in joint exercises. A Passage Exercise (PASSEX) will take place at sea at the end of the visit, which will allow both countries’ forces to practice working together in real-world scenarios. The visit of ‘Sachet’ to Mombasa highlights the growing ties between India and Kenya. The visit forms part of the efforts to improve maritime security and cooperation.
This visit supports India’s SAGAR (Security and Growth for All in the Region) policy, which sees India working with countries in the Indian Ocean and Africa to promote maritime security, trade security, and the blue economy.
Following Mombasa, the Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Sachet’ will sail to Cape Town, South Africa. This visit demonstrates India’s commitment to working with like-minded nations to ensure a secure and prosperous maritime future. The ‘Sachet’ is a key ship which has participated in various humanitarian and security missions. It plays a critical role in maritime security, search, and rescue operations. India is continually increasing its military capabilities and enhancing its defense partnerships with other countries.
