Following the tragic murder of 19-year-old Deepak Gupta, a NEET aspirant, in Gorakhpur, police have arrested the main accused, Rahim, after an armed encounter. The encounter took place in Mauachapi village during a joint operation by the Pipraich police and the Kushinagar police team. Rahim was injured during the exchange of gunfire and is currently hospitalized under police supervision. Gupta’s death led to violent protests, including road blockades and stone-pelting, causing injuries to senior police officials. The incident happened around 12:30 AM on Monday in Mauachapi village. Cattle smugglers arrived with three vehicles, prompting villagers, including Deepak, to intervene. The smugglers abducted Deepak, drove him around for an hour, and killed him before dumping his body a distance away. Police have registered a case and formed multiple teams to locate and arrest the other suspects. One alleged smuggler was caught and beaten by villagers. The police have also clarified that the death was not due to any bullet injuries, contrary to some rumors. The family is demanding swift justice and strict punishment for the perpetrators. Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has directed stringent action, and senior officials, including the District Magistrate, have met with the victim’s family.
