The recent attempts to improve relations between India and Canada are being met with resistance from Khalistani organizations. The Sikhs for Justice (SFJ), a US-based group, has issued threats against the Indian Consulate in Vancouver. A poster released by the group directly targets India’s new High Commissioner, Dinesh Patnaik. The SFJ alleges that the Indian consulate is involved in monitoring and running a spy network targeting supporters of the Khalistan movement. The group has urged Indo-Canadians to avoid the consulate on September 19th for any visa or passport-related work. The SFJ also referenced the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar in 2023, stating that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau had admitted to an investigation into alleged Indian involvement. The organization claims that India’s espionage activities continue in Canada, despite two years passing since the killing. The SFJ claims the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) had to provide witness protection for Inderjit Singh Gosal, the current leader of the Khalistan Referendum campaign. The SFJ stated their intention to demand accountability from Indian agencies through a siege. A recent internal report from the Canadian government also acknowledged financial support to Khalistani extremist groups from Canadian-based individuals and networks, which include organizations like Babbar Khalsa International and International SYF, listed as terrorist organizations by Canada.
