Ranchi, the capital of Jharkhand, is enduring relentless rainfall that has persisted for the past 30 hours. The Meteorological Department has issued a Yellow Alert for over 15 districts, highlighting the severity of the weather’s impact. The torrential downpour has disrupted normal life, with major roads and various areas completely submerged, significantly hindering transportation.
The waterlogging on Ranchi’s roads is extensive, creating a situation where vehicles are effectively navigating through submerged terrain. A dramatic incident unfolded on Monday evening near the Kantatoli flyover, where the main road between Kantatoli and Bahu Bazaar was completely flooded. A white Scorpio car attempting to traverse this area was swallowed by a deep pothole filled with water.
Local residents swiftly intervened, ensuring the occupants of the vehicle were safely rescued. The video capturing the Scorpio’s submersion has quickly become a viral sensation. The Meteorological Department has extended the Yellow Alert for rain in Ranchi and neighboring districts, forecasting that the adverse weather conditions will continue for the next 24 to 48 hours.
The department has also cautioned the public to be vigilant during lightning storms. Unfortunately, two fatalities were reported in Heselpiri village, under the jurisdiction of the Budhmu police station in Ranchi, on Sunday evening. Bal Govind Mahato and Udaynath Mahato lost their lives when they were struck by lightning as they were returning home with their animals.
