India is moving forward with its biofuel program, exploring the introduction of blended diesel. This follows the successful nationwide implementation of E20 petrol, which blends 20% ethanol with petrol. The plan involves using isobutanol, an ethanol derivative, as the additive for diesel, as prior efforts to blend ethanol directly with diesel proved unsuccessful.
The initiative is currently in the experimental phase. Gadkari shared details about the government’s trials, which aim to assess the feasibility and efficacy of isobutanol-blended diesel. The project’s timelines will depend on the results from these ongoing trials.
