Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif of Pakistan has confirmed that Pakistan will host the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation (SCO) summit in 2027. This announcement was made during a speech regarding a road development project in Rawalpindi. No specific dates for the summit were provided.
Sharif emphasized the need for immediate preparations and the improvement of Islamabad. The announcement follows the SCO summit held in Tianjin, China, by two weeks. During the summit, Pakistan discussed the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT). Following a terrorist attack in Pahalgam in April, in which 26 people died, India suspended the treaty.
