Yordanis Cobos-Martinez, a 37-year-old with a history of violent crimes, has been arrested and placed on an immigration hold following the beheading of Chandra Nagamallaiah in Dallas. The gruesome murder took place at the Downtown Suites motel on September 10, where Nagamallaiah was the manager. The initial conflict, according to police, was triggered by a dispute over a broken washing machine. Cobos-Martinez allegedly stabbed Nagamallaiah multiple times before the fatal attack, which was witnessed by his wife and son. Cobos-Martinez, who was recently released from police custody despite a removal order, admitted to the killing. The Consulate General of India in Houston has expressed condolences and is assisting the family. A GoFundMe campaign has been launched to support Nagamallaiah’s family. The incident has spurred outrage and conversations surrounding anti-Asian violence and immigrant worker safety.
