A potential landmark moment in Indian football may be on the horizon this October, with the possibility of Cristiano Ronaldo visiting India for the AFC Champions League Two (ACL2) 2025–26. His team, Al Nassr, is set to play against FC Goa on October 22nd in what could be one of the most significant matches to ever take place in India. Al Nassr has included Ronaldo among their roster of 12 foreign players for ACL2, featuring other global stars such as Sadio Mane, Joao Felix, and Kingsley Coman. Aymeric Laporte will not be participating, having gone back to play with Athletic Club in Spain. FC Goa is grouped with Al Nassr, Al Zawraa (Iraq), and Istiklol (Tajikistan). Their group stage matches begin against Al Zawraa on September 17th in Fatorda, followed by a match against Istiklol on October 1st. The most awaited match is the home game against Al Nassr on October 22nd. Despite Ronaldo being listed in the squad, it remains uncertain whether he will travel. He has typically played very few ACL2 matches away from home. Additionally, Ronaldo recently committed to remaining with Al Nassr until 2027, ending speculation about a move to the MLS. This reinforces his ongoing commitment to supporting Saudi football’s international objectives. FC Goa qualified for the ACL2 by winning the Kalinga Super Cup, marking their return to continental competition since their inaugural appearance in the AFC Champions League in 2021. They qualified by defeating Al Seeb (Oman) 2-1 in a closely fought game. With Mohun Bagan Super Giant also in the mix and Ronaldo potentially making an appearance, this ACL2 season is poised to be a game-changer for Indian football.
