The Hong Kong Open 2025 saw a shocking early exit for Indian badminton player PV Sindhu. In the first round of the women’s singles, she was defeated by Line Christophersen of Denmark. Sindhu initially showed promise, winning the first set with a score of 21-15. However, Christophersen fought back, winning the following two sets 21-16 and 21-19, thus claiming victory in the match. Sindhu’s loss was a surprise, as she had previously held a strong record against Christophersen, having beaten her in straight sets at both the All England Open and the World Tour Final. This time, Christophersen’s revised approach proved effective. While Sindhu’s tournament run was cut short, Indian players continued to advance in other events. Lakshya Sen, HS Prannoy, and Kiran George reached the round of 16 in the men’s singles. Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy, the top Indian men’s doubles pair, also progressed to the next round after a first-round win. Sindhu is now preparing for the upcoming China Masters event.
