All airports in Nepal, including Kathmandu’s Tribhuvan International Airport, are currently closed and will remain so until Wednesday at noon. Flights were suspended starting from 2 PM on Tuesday because of ongoing unrest. This has led to hundreds of passengers being stranded, both within Nepal and abroad, with no flights operating since the afternoon of September 9th. As a security measure, the Nepali Army has taken over command of the airport.
The situation will be reviewed before a decision is made regarding the reopening of the airport after Wednesday noon. The Nepali Army’s presence aims to ensure overall security, although the full safety of planes and passengers cannot be guaranteed in the current climate.
Buddha Air has indicated that its operations will be impacted on Wednesday, apologizing for any resulting inconvenience. They will continue to provide regular updates on flight schedules. Furthermore, Indian airlines IndiGo and SpiceJet have issued travel advisories, stating the suspension of their flights to and from Kathmandu.
