The Shiv Sena (UBT), led by Uddhav Thackeray, will launch a statewide agitation against the Maharashtra government starting Wednesday. The primary aim of the protest is to call for the scrapping of the Jan Suraksha Kanoon. The protests will include demonstrations at Shivaji Park in Mumbai, near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue.
The Jan Suraksha Kanoon was strongly opposed by Shiv Sena (UBT) when it was passed in the Maharashtra Assembly. Leaders like CM Devendra Fadnavis have defended the bill, stating it is intended to counter Naxalism and urban Maoism in regions like Gadchiroli and Konkan. Uddhav Thackeray, however, has expressed concerns that the law could be misused to target political opponents and social groups.
