The 41st MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) was held in New York City on September 7, 2025, hosted by LL Cool J. The show featured performances by Lady Gaga, Sabrina Carpenter, Alex Warren, and sombr, with presenters including Ashlee Simpson Ross, Brittany Snow, Ciara, Ice Spice, Jessica Simpson, Latto, and Megan Stalter. The event was broadcast live for the first time on CBS.
Doja Cat opened the show with a performance referencing the 1980s, featuring Max Headroom. Kenny G joined her on stage during her performance of “Jealous Type.”
Lady Gaga, with 12 nominations, won Artist of the Year, presented by Lenny Kravitz. A segment from her Madison Square Garden concert was also included. Sabrina Carpenter won Best Pop and Best Album, performing her new song “Tears,” which supported trans rights and anti-hate messages.
Career achievement awards were given to Mariah Carey, Ricky Martin, and Busta Rhymes. Yungblud and Aerosmith honored the late rocker Ozzy Osbourne.
