The impact of heavy rainfall is being acutely felt in several Indian states, with Punjab facing a critical situation. The state has seen 46 lives lost due to the floods. In addition, millions have been affected, with around 2,000 villages submerged and 2 lakh hectares of crops devastated. To address this crisis, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Punjab.
Prime Minister Modi will visit Punjab on September 9th and will tour the flood-affected regions, with Gurdaspur as a key focus. The visit is looked forward to by every resident of Punjab, and there is a possibility of a major package announcement during this visit. The Prime Minister may announce financial aid or compensation for the victims.
Approximately 2,000 villages in Punjab are under the grip of floods. The state has been experiencing flood-like conditions since August 17th. Continuous heavy rainfall has caused the villages to be fully submerged. The affected population has been relocated. The agricultural sector has suffered greatly, with over 2 lakh hectares of crops destroyed. Reports indicate that the state has suffered damage exceeding 10,000 crore.
The Punjab government has already declared the state as disaster-stricken. Moreover, the state government has requested 60,000 crore in funds from the central government. During PM Modi’s visit, it is anticipated that a package will be announced.
Many districts of Punjab are under the impact of floods. The army is continuously engaged in rescue and relief operations in these areas. Bollywood actor Salman Khan has come forward to help those suffering from the floods in Punjab. Other actors have also adopted villages.
