A disturbing case has emerged from Bemetara, Chhattisgarh, where an elderly woman, Shail Sharma, is fighting to prove she is alive after her daughter-in-law allegedly fabricated her death certificate. The 81-year-old woman approached the Bemetara Collector’s office, seeking acknowledgment of her existence, stating that she is alive and should not be treated as deceased. Her claim centers around a property dispute where the daughter-in-law is accused of plotting to seize her husband’s assets, motivated by the desire to acquire land. The land is located on Maihar Road, Satna, MP, which her husband had purchased. The daughter-in-law was responsible for managing the land, leading to its recent transfer to the daughter-in-law and her daughter. This action was met with resistance from the victim’s grandson and elder son. The subsequent investigation by the SDM Court in Satna confirmed a shocking fact: Shail Sharma was declared dead in 1993, decades before the current dispute. The death certificate was issued from the Maro police station in Bemetara. This situation underscores the erosion of family values due to land disputes, with the daughter-in-law falsely declaring her mother-in-law deceased. The elderly woman’s recent foreign travel adds another layer to this peculiar case. Authorities now face the task of determining how to correct this fraudulent situation and recognize the woman’s true living status.
