The FASTag Annual Pass, introduced by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) on August 15, 2025, offers private vehicle owners a more convenient way to pay tolls on specific national highways and expressways. The pass allows users to choose between 200 toll-free trips annually or unlimited travel for an entire year, all for a one-time payment of ₹3,000. Within days of its launch, the scheme garnered over five lakh subscriptions, highlighting its appeal to regular travelers. However, the annual pass has limitations. It is not applicable on all highways and expressways, particularly those administered by state authorities. Consequently, travelers will still need to use their standard FASTag account on these routes, which may lead to the necessity of managing two active FASTag accounts for frequent commuters.
The annual pass is only valid on NHAI and centrally-managed toll plazas, excluding state-managed expressways and local roads. The following list details the excluded highways and expressways:
* Bundelkhand Expressway (Uttar Pradesh)
* Agra–Lucknow Expressway (Uttar Pradesh)
* Yamuna Expressway (Uttar Pradesh)
* Mumbai–Pune Expressway – operated by the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC)
* Atal Setu (Goa) – bridge managed under a state toll system
* Samruddhi Mahamarg (Maharashtra) – state highway not covered under the scheme
NHAI clarified that the annual pass is exclusively for highways and expressways under the central authority, and tolls managed by state bodies are not part of its coverage.
The pass is designed for private and non-commercial vehicles only. Commercial fleets, taxis, yellow-plate vehicles, and vehicles registered only by chassis number are excluded. Additionally, parking fees are not included. Even if you have an NHAI annual pass, toll charges on excluded routes will continue to be deducted from your standard FASTag account.
To apply, users can utilize the official NHAI portal or the Rajmarg Yatra App. The process involves providing the Vehicle Registration Number (VRN) and FASTag ID for verification and making a one-time payment of ₹3,000 through various available payment options.
